Ballet Ariel presents a spirited performance of the ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ in their fall concert. The wonderful music by Paul Dukas made famous in Disney’s ‘Fantasia’ is brought to life by dancing goblins and a bumbling apprentice. Based on a poem by Goethe, the ballet begins with the sorcerer leaving his apprentice to do chores, but instead the apprentice enchants a broom to do the work for him. Soon the spell is out of control, and the apprentice is powerless to stop the spell. In Ballet Ariel’s version of the ballet, dark spirits control the pots of water and brooms, and in the end torment and battle the apprentice. The company is also performing exciting scenes from Act 2 of the classical Petipa ballet ‘Raymonda’. In this famous ballet, the young Raymonda is awaiting the arrival of her fiancé, but is challenged by an Arabian suitor, Sheik bderakhman who attempts to conquer Raymonda. Also on the program is a fabulous new contemporary ballet ‘The Messenger Within’ by Gregory Gonzales. The ballet danced to Bach’s ‘Mass in B Minor’ is inspired by the music and the Ricoletto Cemetery in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where there are hundreds of sculptures of angels in varied poses and expressions.

Ballet Ariel is offering two performances of our fall concert ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and More Fall Dances’ on Saturday, November 5th at 7:30 pm and Sunday, November 6th at 3:00 pm. Performances are at the historic Cleo Parker Robinson Theatre at 119 Park Avenue West in Denver. Tickets are $20.00 for adults, and $16.00 for students, seniors and children. We also offer a Denver Arts Week $52.80 family package for 2 adults, and 2 children under 18.
